UK – Marv Wolfman Signing

Legendary comic writer Marv Wolfman will be signing at the Forbidden Planet Megastore on Sunday 8th February at 4:00 PM as part of a rare visit to the UK.

Marv Wolfman has created more characters that have gone on to television, animation, movies and toys than any other comics creator since Stan Lee. Marv is the writer-creator of Blade, the Vampire Hunter, Bullseye, the prime villain in the 2003 movie, Daredevil, Deathstroke, the main villain in the first two seasons of the hit Arrow TV show, which he created for DC’s best-selling comic, New Teen Titans which was also adapted into two runaway hit shows on the Cartoon Network and is now being done as a live-action pilot for Fox. Some of his other characters have been seen in Man of Steel as well as The Guardians of The Galaxy. His Titan character Cyborg will be seen in four upcoming DC movies, starting with 2015’s Superman vs. Batman: Dawn of Justice.

Marv writes video games. His script for his most recent published game: Epic Mickey 2, was nominated for a WGA writing award for Outstanding Video-game Script. He has also written the video games for Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters, Superman Returns, DCU-MMO, Flash and Dark Knight among others. He also writes animation and has story-edited many shows including Transformers, Adventures of Superman, Monster Force and more.

Marv also writes novels; his adaptation of Superman Returns won the industry’s “Scribe” award. He is currently writing a novelization for Titan Books in London. His first non-fiction book, Homeland, The Illustrated History of The State of Israel won the National Jewish Book Award among others. Marv is also a recipient of the Will Eisner Hall of Fame Award.

Marv was Editor-in-Chief at Marvel Comics, senior editor at DC Comics and founding editor of Disney Adventures magazine and created many characters for these companies and others. Marv was also Editorial Director for 15 graphic albums for the educational market, targeting high school students who read with a 3rd -5th grade level. He was given a special commendation by the White House for his work on three anti-drug comics for the “Just Say No” program.

Marv is married to his lovely wife, Noel, a Director of Production at Blizzard Entertainment, and has a wonderful daughter, Jessica, from his first marriage. Marv & Noel also have an obstreperous Keeshond dog named Elle Dee Deux (L.D.) who is currently chewing on everything that is and isn’t nailed down.

The All-Star Talent For The Line-Wide Relaunch – DC UNIVERSE: REBIRTH – Will Be Revealed At An Unprecedented Saturday Morning Press Conference Open To All And Streamed Live! Plus there will be awesome fan activities, informative publishing panels, and special surprise announcements.

Marking WonderCon’s debut in its own backyard, DC Entertainment (DCE) will dominate the event with a stellar lineup of panels and fan activities beginning Friday, March 25 to Sunday, March 27 at The Los Angeles Convention Center.

DCE’s WonderCon 2016 programming will be highlighted by a must-attend event touting the upcoming colossal DC UNIVERSE: REBIRTH line-wide comic book title relaunch. Boston Comic Con kicks off the three-day comic book convention on Friday, August 12 to Sunday August 14!

Boston Comic Con Celebrity Guest list includes William Shatner, the original Captain James T. Kirk, whose appearance, along with Vic Mignogna, marks the celebration of Star Trek’s 50th anniversary. Also appearing are leading stars from top current TV shows including John Barrowman, Caity Lotz, Ciara Renee, Danielle Panabaker and Robbie Amell from CW’s Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow and The Flash, Ben Mckenzie from Gotham, Elizabeth Henstridge from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Gillian Anderson from the X-Files and featuring special appearances from Doctor Who companions Jenna Coleman and Karen Gillan.

Frank Miller, the most celebrated creators in comic book history, headlines a stellar line-up of over 90 world class comic book artists and writers, including notable appearances by Sam Kieth and John Cassaday. Kieth is best known for his creator-owned titles The Maxx and Zero Girl and as co-creator of The Sandman. Cassady is a fan favorite artist with acclaimed runs on Planetary, Captain America, Astonishing X-Men and Marvel’s new Star Wars series. In honor of the 75th anniversary of the comic book super heroine Wonder Woman in 2016, Kent State University and the Cleveland Public Library will partner to celebrate the intersections of public literacy, comics, and feminism in a jointly sponsored symposium. The 2016 Wonder Woman Symposium partners two powerful public institutions in Northeast Ohio, taking up the historical trends that have changed the world of comics, American popular culture, and feminism. Centering on the figure of Wonder Woman and her heirs, this symposium will feature plenary addresses by major creators in the industry and historians of the comics world, and workshops by comics creators on creating graphic narratives and comics. This forum seeks to highlight both regional and national talent. Our celebration of Wonder Woman’s anniversary pays respect to “herstory” while recognizing her perpetual relevance to our present day, and beyond.

This conference is made possible, in part, by the Ohio Humanities, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Any views, findings, conclusions, or recommendations expressed in this conference do not necessarily represent those of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

He has co-written, with Justin Gray, the DC comic book series Jonah Hex, All-Star Western, GI Combat, Star Spangled War Stories, Power Girl and the digital release Ame-Comi Girls, available digitally at Comixology.com. The pair have worked on the video game Injustice: Gods Among Us for NeatherRealm Studios and DCU vs. Mortal Kombat. At Marvel, Jimmy teamed with Joe Quesada to create the Marvel Knights imprint and usher in a radical change at Marvel Comics still felt to this day. He and Justin Gray were tapped to adapt the award winning novel Wool for an Amazon exclusive digital graphic novel series.

Currently in film development are a number of projects created by Jimmy, which include Just A Pilgrim, The New West, Random Acts of Violence, Monolith and Tempest; as well as well as Painkiller Jane being adapted for film.

AMANDA CONNER:

000_amanda_conner_planet-comiconAmanda Conner started out in comics working on small projects for Marvel and Archie. She had been working as an illustrator for New York ad agencies Kornhauser and Calene and Kidvertisers. She worked on a number of launches and campaigns such as Arm & Hammer, PlaySchool and Nickelodeon, to name a few.

However, loving comic books and cartooning the most, Amanda found herself working for Marvel on their Barbie line (many of Amanda’s covers were made into designs for the line of Barbie toys), Disney line which included the Gargoyles books. At the same time she was illustrating Soul Searchers & Co. for Claypool Comics and worked on other Marvel projects, such as Excalibur for the X-Men line and Suburban Jersey Ninja She-Devils.

During an assignment for Crusade (Tomoe) she and Jimmy Palmiotti became a real team as penciller/inker.

Amanda then moved on to do what is probably one of her best known works. She did several years as penciller on the hit series Vampirella for Harris Comics drafting 24 issues. While illustrating Vampirella, Amanda worked with the top writers in the field including Grant Morrison, Mark Millar and Warren Ellis.

Continuing to expand her horizons, Amanda illustrated the best-selling crossover Painkiller Jane vs. the Darkness, and went on to work on Painkiller Jane #0 (the origin book). She also wrote and illustrated a story for Kid Death and Fluffy.

Since then, Amanda has moved on and has worked on many of the top titles in comics such as Lois Lane, Codename: Knockout, and Birds of Prey for D.C. Comics Vertigo line, X-Men Unlimited for Marvel, co-created Gatecrasher for Blackbull Comics, and The Pro, an Eisner nominated creator owned book for Image Comics with Jimmy Palmiotti and Garth Ennis.

Amanda, together with artist/inker/writer Jimmy Palmiotti and writer Justin Gray work together via Paperfilms; a multimedia entertainment studio, engaged in screenwriting, art production and multimedia development.

She continuously produces cover work for Marvel Comics, DC Comics and an assortment of independent titles.

Amanda’s work can also be seen outside the comic book community in such places as ABC’S Nightline, the New York Times, Mad Magazine, the syfy series Stan Lee’s So You Want to be a Superhero. For the upcoming Disney Underdog movie doing character designs for film and television. Amanda did character designs for the Los Angeles Avengers stadium football team and is featured in a Biography magazine commercial on A&E. Amanda does spot illustrations in Revolver magazine each month and has had a huge success with the JSA Power Girl miniseries in previous years. Each issue went into 3rd printings.

Superman Celebration Returns This Weekend

Superman Celebration returns for its 39th year this weekend! This is a one-of-a-kind event that every Superman enthusiast must attend! Free Admission and Family Friendly, Metropolis is ready to welcome you June 8th – 11th 2017. Guests include Dean Cain (Superman/Clark Kent on Lois & Clark), Margot Kidder (Lois Lane in the Superman films), James Marsters (Brainiac on Smallville), Sarah Douglas (Ursa in the Superman films), Amanda Conner (Harley Quinn, Power Girl), Jimmy Palmiotti (Starfire, Jonah Hex), John Ostrander (Suicide Squad, Justice League), Gwenda Bond (Lois Lane YA novels), Todd Aaron Smith (The Adventures of Superman, Batman: The Animated Series), and more.

What started as a 1 day “Homecoming” for the local residents has now evolved into a 4-day celebration that attracts Superman Fans and families from around the world. 47 States and 6 different countries were represented at the 2016 Celebration. 2017 marks the 45th year that Metropolis, IL has been designated as the adopted “Home of Superman.”

The Celebration this year will be dedicated to the memory of Noel Neill, who portrayed Lois Lane in the Adventures of Superman television series. Neill, was a repeat guest to the Superman Celebration for many years and was even given the title “First Lady of Metropolis” when a statue of her portraying Lois Lane was revealed in her honor. Neill passed away in July of 2016.

The Superman Celebration kicks off at 5:00 PM on Thursday June 8th and runs through 2:00 PM on Sunday June 11th. Many special events are planned for this year’s Celebration including musical entertainment, a carnival, Superman Celebrity Autograph and Q & A Sessions, and the Heroes & Villains Costume Contest. Also, planned for this year, is the return of the Hollywood Ball, in memory of Noel Neill.

The 18th annual Baltimore Comic-Con returns to the Baltimore Convention Center the weekend of September 22-24, 2017Tickets are available now for General Admission, VIP, and Ringo Awards! As is the case every year, we have received a steady stream of requests for our Panel schedule — details are now ready for release, and we’re really excited to share them with you!

Friday will feature a spotlight on one of the most popular creators in modern comics, Frank Miller. Pixel Portraits: A Digital Storytelling Workshop by the creator of Matty’s Rocket, showcases his storyboarding process of panel to panel techniques for comics, animation, and film.

You are part of Batman’s trusted team of engineers and interior designers. He has just tasked you with a very important job. Working together, you must design and draw the blueprints for a new Batcave!

5:00-6:00 – A Piggy’s Tale Comic Reading and Drawing! with Piggy and Tod Emko

Join Tod Emko for a live reading of A Piggy’s Tale, the universally loved all-ages comic. Piggy the Three-Legged Super Pup will be present to greet his public and model as the audience draws the heroic canine. If Piggy likes the drawing, the child will receive the first issue of A Piggy’s Tale! All participants will have their photos taken with their drawings for the piggytale.com website.
